Foundation Art
Students explore the studio side of art: drawing, painting, 3-D sculpting, and computer graphics. Work is created within a variety of mediums. Art history lessons are integral to the studio activities, and the time. Career opportunities, such as field trips. video, and music will be incorporated into the course.
 
Advanced Art
Students develop basic skills begun in Foundation Art. However, students experiance flexibility in directing the substance of their personal portfolios. Serious work is expected, and a contract for each semester's work will be agreed upon.
 
Graphic/ Multimedia Exploration
Learning to navigate with the industry-standard graphic software. Adobe Photoshop, we will explore the visual language of graphic art. Web page design, multimedia presentation, and some video editing round out the half-year course.
 
3-Dimensional Design
Do you enjoy creating and putting stuff together in 3-D format? Such is the basis format for this class.
In this course we will create 3-D freestanding art with purchased and found materials. such as clay, cardboard, wire, plaster, wood, fabric, paper, tree branches and rocks, et al. This class will be assessed on class participation, critique, assisting others, quality of project and attention to details in the creation process.

CHORUS

GRADES 9 -12, 1 CREDIT
Chorus is available for students in grades 9-12 who plan to work on improving their individual abilities and ensemble skills. The Chorus studies and prepares for performance music from a wide variety of styles and time periods. Sight singing and music theory are incorporated in order to develop students' command of the musical language.

Chorus members are given the opportunity to participate in the annual District Music Festival, and to audition for the All-State and New England Music Festivals. Additional performance opportunities are available for interested students. Members are required to participate in all functions of the entire
ensemble.

 
BAND

GRADES 9-12, 1 CREDIT
Band is available to students in grades 9-12 who already play an instrument and who plan to work at improving their individual abilities and ensemble skills. Band is also open to students who do not currently play an instrument, but who wish to learn. The Band studies and prepares for performance
a wide variety of music including classical music, popular music, traditional wind band literature, marching band selections, and contemporary compositions.

Band members are given the opportunity to audition for the annual District, All-State, and New England Festivals. Additional performance opportunities are available for interested students.
Members are required to participate in all functions of the entire ensemble and must be prepared for testing on music reading and scale memorization.

MUSIC THEORY
GRADES 9-12, 1 CREDIT
Music theory provides students in grades 9-12 with an opportunity to learn about the elements of music, composition, arranging, notation, and MIDI applications. Students will be asked to compose in a number of styles. Students will critique others' work as well as being critiqued by their peers. This
course will be helpful for any student wishing to gain a better understanding of music in order to improve individual skills. Music Theory is highly recommended for students considering a career in music.

JAZZ BAND

GRADES 9-12, 1 CREDIT
Jazz Band is available to students in grades 9-12 with instrumental experience. Students taking this course will have the opportunity to further develop their understanding of music while also developing the ability to improvise within the group. Members will study both popular and traditional jazz.

Members are given the opportunity to audition for the annual District and All-State Music Festivals. Additional performance opportunities are available for interested students. Students will be assessed on individual progress. Students are required to participate in all functions of the entire ensemble.
