POST HIGH SCHOOL PLANNING CALENDAR

2007/2008

 

SENIOR YEAR

 

 

SEPTEMBER:

____    Register for the SAT or ACT as necessary.  The Oct. 6 SAT registration deadline is Sept. 10, and the Nov. 3 SAT registration deadline is October 2.

____    Check - Are SAT IIÕs required by any of your colleges?

____    Review your transcript & graduation requirements with your school counselor.

____    Check announcements or guidance website for "College Rep" visits.  Sign up for these visits in the guidance office.  

____    Complete necessary Guidance forms for college application (the Senior S.T.A.R. packet).

____    Narrow your college/postsecondary school choice list to 3 to 5 schools.

____    Attend the College Fair.

____    Obtain applications for colleges and/or scholarships you are considering. 

____    Check local scholarship information, which is available in the guidance office.

 

OCTOBER:

____    Reminder: the Dec. 1 SAT registration deadline is October 30. 

____    Complete and return applications by specific deadlines.

á      Early action/early decision application deadlines are often November 1 and November 15!

á      Some scholarship deadlines are as early as October 1!

____    Attend the VSAC Paying for College Night here at EFHS (date & time TBD).

____    Complete and return NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse form if you are

considering playing college sports.  Forms may be obtained through you School

Counselor or at NCAA website.

____    Obtain and complete CSS ÒProfile FormÓ if you are applying to competitive colleges which require the Profile Form.

____    Use the TeacherÕs Convention time to visit colleges or postsecondary schools you are considering. 

 

NOVEMBER: 

____    Register for the ACT and/or SAT I/SAT II as necessary.

____    Get your FAFSA PIN # at http://www.pin.ed.gov/ 

____    Continue to research scholarship opportunities.

____    Complete and return applications by specific deadlines.

____    Meet with your School Counselor as necessary.

 

 

DECEMBER: 

____    Register and take ACT and/or SAT I/SAT II as necessary.  The registration deadline for the Jan. 26 SAT is Dec. 26.

____    Pick up Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms in the guidance office.  These forms are to be filed after January 1.

____    Let you parents know you will need copies of their Tax Returns to complete your financial aid forms.

____    File financial aid forms as required by individual colleges.

____    Request transcript and materials be sent to colleges for January 1 deadline prior to the December vacation.

 

JANUARY: 

____    Register and take ACT and/or SAT I/SAT II as necessary.

____    File VSAC and FAFSA financial aid forms.

____    Request mid-year reports / seventh-semester transcripts to be sent to you colleges.

____    Have you completed your Civic Service Graduation Requirements yet? 

 

FEBRUARY:

____    Complete any remaining applications.

____    Continue to research scholarships.

 

MARCH: 

____    Review the federal Student Aid Report Form (SAR).

____    Attend the Career Fair.

____    Register for AP exams in the Guidance Office.

 

APRIL: 

____    Visit the colleges or postsecondary school to which you have been accepted.

____    Review college responses and financial aid offers carefully.

____    Military Service Academy applications should be filed this month. 

 

MAY:

____    Reply to the college you have chosen by the May 1 deadline.  Inform other colleges where you do not plan to attend.

____    Take Advanced Placement (AP) exams as necessary.

____    Be aware that colleges reserve the right to deny admission based on the final transcript!

 

JUNE: 

____   Request final transcripts to be sent from the EFHS Guidance to the college you plan to attend.
